More Freedom. Less Government.
My name is Christopher Sullivan, and I am the Libertarian nominee for Virginia’s House of Delegates, 55th District. I am running for office first and foremost to ensure all Virginians, and especially those in our district, will always have someone fighting to maintain and increase their liberty. The standard for representative government has unfortunately been the implementation of ever increasing regulations for outcomes bureaucrats view as ideal. I, on the other hand, view all legislative responsibilities and issues through the lens of liberty, believing that each governmental decision and fiat will either make us freer (an outcome that is all too rare) or less free, and that each governmental intrusion or manipulation in the economy will have unforeseen and undesirable consequences. I will work tirelessly to make Virginia the freest state in the Union through proposed repeals of state laws and nullification of federal laws that infringe on personal and economic liberties or step beyond the bounds of the Constitution. I will also work diligently to lower taxes and spending wherever possible, but especially through advocating the wholesale reform of our state income tax, ideally altogether doing away with a taxation system that penalizes achievement.
The notion of a third party candidacy has so often been dismissed as a wasted vote or a spoiler vote. (I disagree and submit that a vote for principle regardless of political party is never a wasted vote.) I believe times are changing though, and I find people are more receptive than ever to departing from the two-party status quo that has so ill-served us for over a hundred years. I'm asking the citizens of our district to ask themselves what they truly want from their government - more taxes and spending on unsustainable programs and governmental organizations that invade every aspect of our lives and liberty or, as I believe it should be, a strict defense of liberty for all in our district and our Commonwealth.
I humbly submit that I have lived a culture of integrity, duty, and leadership, from my time as a cadet at Virginia Military Institute, to my eight year career as a Marine Corps intelligence officer, to my private sector career working to mitigate the effects of improvised explosive devices on our service members overseas. It is with a similar sense of duty to the people of our district that I am seeking this office, and I would be honored to have your support next Tuesday.
